Together, Sweden’s telecom operators have created a joint number (7726) to improve the fight against scam SMS messages (smishing).
Faster blocking
Earlier each telecom operator had their own number for reporting scams, but now they have created a joint number to make reporting easier for customers: 7726. With a common number the documentation of suspected smishing and vishing can now be gathered in one place. This means that information can be spread faster between operators and they can take action at the same time.
The Swedish Telecom Advisors (Telekområdgivarna) coordinated the project and together with Telia, Tele2, Telenor and Tre developed the new solution that will support the ongoing efforts to stop scam attempts.
How to report
If you received an SMS that you suspect is a scam and would like to report it, you simply forward the message to 7726.
This provides the operators with information about the SMS message and its contents and can prevent it from being sent to more people.
The number spells ‘SPAM’ on an alphanumeric phone keypad and has been established globally to report smishing.
