Service status:

Verification of ID document

You can now request a verification of the customers ID document when signing via BankID. This extra verification provides additional security, which can be beneficial in situations requiring higher levels of security, e.g., when transferring large sums of money or when sharing sensitive information.

Digital flow in the BankID app

This verification is done fully digitally in the BankID app. The customer needs to have a valid Swedish passport or national ID card at hand. As driver's licences lack a chip, they can’t be used. The customer must also have a smartphone with a camera and an NFC reader (features in most newer phones).

We perform a control with the police to ensure that the ID document is authentic, valid and belongs to the right person. This also ensures that the person signing and the ID document are in the same location.

Take photo, tap, confirm

The verification entails three steps for the customer.

1. Taking a photo

The customer takes a photo of their ID document.

1. Taking a photo

2. Tapping

The customer places their phone against the ID document to wirelessly read the data from its chip.

2. Tapping

3. Confirming

The customer confirms with a signature in the BankID app.

Usage and price

Though it’s only a two-step process, this verification will take more time for the customer. Therefore, we recommend that you carefully weigh what situations you will use it for. Please consult with your BankID reseller to understand what the impact will be on the price.
