We are now launching a way of obtaining a BankID remotely using a passport or national ID card. Swedbank is the first to offer the option to do this.

We are constantly working to simplify and improve BankID without compromising on security. Now there is a way of confirming your identity using the reader in smart phones in combination with the chip in passports and national ID cards. There is no need to use a card reader/security box or visit a bank branch. Swedbank is the first to offer the option to do this.

You need a Swedish passport or national ID card

To obtain a BankID in this new way, you need one of the two ID documents that meet the security requirements and have a chip that can be read using your phone. That means that you need to hold a valid Swedish passport or national ID card from the Swedish Police. You also need a mobile phone with an NFC reader. Most newer mobile phones are equipped with NFC readers and there is no need to download an app.

If you do not have a Swedish passport or national ID card, you can of course obtain a BankID using a card reader/security box or at bank branches, just like before.

Swedbank is the first to offer this option

Swedbank, which has already launched the new feature for its customers, is the first. We look forward to it becoming easier for many people to obtain a BankID and we hope that more banks will choose to offer this method in future.
