In the new version (7.36) of the BankID app, we have enhanced the protection when you get a Mobile BankID. This means that you, in some cases, will need to share your location and turn on Bluetooth® on both your phones when signing up for a new BankID. This helps prevent remote fraud by ensuring that your old and new phones are at the same location.

From now you could be asked to share your location and turn on Bluetooth® when getting a new BankID for a new phone. This update has been done to ensure that you are at the same location as your new and old phone, which decreases the risk for remote fraud. Bluetooth® and location services must be activated whilst you are getting your new BankID. They can then be turned off.

We are working continuously to develop BankID and ensure that it’s just as safe and secure as it has always been. Turning on Bluetooth® and activating location services are two of the safety updates we are implementing to increase security.

“Our most important mission is to ensure that BankID is a secure and accessible e-ID. Remember that your BankID is a personal ID document, and you should be the only person who uses it, just like all other ID documents. Always use your BankID in a secure manner and make sure you are the only person who has control over it. You should NEVER give anyone else access to your BankID”, says e-identity expert Petter Dahl.
