It’s now easier, smoother and more secure for Swedes to access public e-services abroad. BankID has been published in EU:s official journal which means that foreign public services is obligated to add BankID as identification method within 12 months.

As a request from us at BankID, DIGG sent in an application, requesting to make it possible for Swedes to identify themselves with BankID in public e-services abroad. The application has now been approved and BankID can be found in EU:s official journal for electronic identification. This means that public e-services abroad now has 12 months to add BankID as an alternative for identification in their e-services.

How does it work?

Once an e-identification has gone through the registration process, other countries have one year to make it possible to use the e-identification in their public digital services. But usually it goes faster. It’s mandatory for public authorities within the EU/EEA to allow identification with all e-identifications that have gone through the process.

Several public services have already started offering BankID as an identification method, and we look forward to see more public e-services follow.
