Mobile BankID - electronic identification launched for mobile devices

The largest infrastructure for electronic identification in Sweden, BankID, has launched a new secure electronic identification used in mobile phones and tablet computers - Mobile BankID.

BankID as of today (smart card and soft certificate) is used by more than three million active customers, who use their BankID for electronic identification as well as signature for a wide variety of services; from online banking, e-trade to tax declaration. Now we add full mobility to the BankID concept by introducing the Mobile BankID solution.

On October 10, 2011, Swedbank and Skandiabanken, as the first banks, enabled their Internet and mobile banks for Mobile BankID. All a customer has to do to get started is to download the BankID app from Android Market or AppStore to his/her mobile phone or tablet, and request the Mobile BankID from the bank, using the app.

A predecessor to Mobile BankID was introduced in 2010, but has now been made fully independent of telecom and Internet operator.

Several other banks are in the process of enabling their systems for Mobile BankID, issuing BankID to their customers, for use in various kinds of e-services including bank, government and private company services.
